Buying a new semi truck is a huge investment. It’s no wonder that you need to put a lot more thought and planning into this, than when you buy semi-truck accessories like an underbody tool box. If you’re looking to become an owner and operator, this is the investment of a lifetime and you don’t want to mess it up.

1. Take your time

   We’ve already shared with you several times that if you’re in a hurry to get an aluminum underbody tool box, Trebor Manufacturing is your go to place.  However, you shouldn’t be in a hurry to buy a semi truck, so make sure you plan this way in advance.

2. Assess your needs

   Since it is important that you plan ahead of time, you’ll have time to write down all your needs and the SPECS desired on your truck. Having such a list will stop you from buying a truck just because it seems like the deal of the century.

3. Buy from a trusted dealer

   If you’re buying a used truck, it’s always better to do so with a trustworthy dealer, unless you know the person you’re buying it from. There are three main reasons why you should pick a dealer:   
   
   – Financing options are usually available
   – If something goes wrong with your truck, there’s a better chance of recourse since most dealers don’t want to have a bad reputation.
   – You’ll get a warranty (probably a short one) should something break after your purchase. You could even ask for an extended warranty.

4. Check the truck surface for rust

   Rust is your worst enemy and it can make your semi truck not reliable for transportation. Take your time to inspect it in the daylight and look for the rusty spots in every corner, around the semi underbody tool box, in the back, in the front, underneath…EVERYWHERE!

5. Ask for the semi truck’s history

   If you can’t get the truck’s history, walk away from the deal. You need to know if it was involved in an accident, get some background on the maintenance and ideally, ask who owned it before. Do your homework and if you’re not satisfied with the answers, move on to the next truck.
